Hiral K. Patel, MD

My first rotation during my clinical years was surgery. I realized I wanted to pursue surgery as a career within the first few days of the rotation. I particularly enjoyed the interaction I had with patients before surgery, and found great satisfaction in being able to earn their trust/ confidence to treat their illness with a set of skills only a surgeon develops. I hope my patients will trust I will do everything to make their surgical experience and recovery as comfortable as possible. I know the most important aspect of any surgery is the patient and making sure the care he or she receives is what I would expect for myself or any member of my family. I truly believe it is important to stay up to date with the latest advances in surgery and to do so I attend conferences, read articles and journals and teach residents and medical students who definitely keep me “on my toes”. My parents have been the biggest influence in my career as they are the ones who taught me dedication and hard work will allow me to reach my goals in life. When I am not at work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and family, traveling, and cooking.
