Ranjit R. Pullarkat, M.D., F.A.C.S.

When I first went to medical school, I initially wanted to become a medical research scientist. However, after my initial contact with patients, I felt this is where I wanted to be and where I wanted to build my future. To this day, that interaction, to gain a patient’ trust, sometimes in a short period of time, to perform an operation, something so personal, is a trait I work daily to improve. My patients are my teachers, and I continue to learn many valuable lessons from them each day. An operation or procedure is something that can be perfected by repetition. However, the interaction between a patient and their health care team, from the moment they meet through the full recovery period, is paramount. Through meetings in the community, national meetings, web conferences, online course and journal articles, I can keep up with the latest knowledge and technology. Most importantly for me is the ability to work with my colleagues at Virginia Surgery Associates and the very active medical community in Northern Virginia to collaborate on patient care. I also benefit as a mentor for robotic surgery for other practitioners.
